Back in the late 90's, I contracted with Eric Bailey, in Juneau, =
Alaska, to create a series of 20 radio spots, for Public Radio, that =
would direct listeners to "building assets in children and youth." The =
spots took a lot of hours and rewrites, because the audience =
diversification was wide, and Eric kept thinking over and again that =
he might only have one single spot to save a child's life. Touching a =
broad audience in multiple cultures with a single spot takes a lot of =
thought. Time and again he would wake up at three in the morning =
thinking about phrasing. He'd go to bed at night asking how would a =
fisherman react? A school teacher? Joe Six Pack? An Alaskan Native =
Grandma ?
He wanted the best he could possibly do for the kids. Four of his =
spots are posted below...These are formatted as scripts for the actual =
read, so spacing may look a bit odd in some cases until you read them =
out loud.
Eric can be reached at ericbaileyalaska at yahoo.com. For more =
information, drop him a line. If you want a conversation on the =
promotion side of youth development through asset building, you can =
drop me a line at derek at icar-us.com.
Kids Need Wise Captains
When the wind picks up and the seas get rough, even the best of boats =
and crews can be blown off course. Captains know that when the =
going gets tough, heading for any port in a storm is not always the =
safe thing to do.
Kids need wise captains. Responsible adults they can talk to when the =
sea of life kicks up.
A small amount of your time can make a big difference. Please=85talk =
with a child today. Help them steer a straight course for safety.

Honest Mistakes Happen
Being consistent with children and youth is important. Kids need to =
know you love them=85 even when you=92re tired=85even if they=92ve done =
something wrong.
Honest mistakes happen.
It=92s hard to ride a bicycle, ski moguls, or live life without falling =
down.
With just a few moments of kindness and quiet understanding, you can =
teach fairness. That=92s important for youth to learn, and there=92s no =
better way=85than from a good example.

kids.
___
Say I Love You
People really shouldn't say "I love you"
unless they mean it. But if they do, they should say it a lot.
Adults forget. So do kids.

new generation.
Give them your time=85and wisdom. Make a difference. Your time now=85can =
