I thought you might be interested in seeing a brief video of the Capitol Hill briefing that Search Institute and the National Collaboration for Youth held recently in DC. I think it could be a great resource for asset builders in schools to highlight the power of our work for students. Attendance was wall-to-wall. Thanks to Connect 4 Kids, part of the Forum for Youth Investment, which produced the video: http://www.connectforkids.org/node/6986. And, we do share insights, materials, and connections readily. In that spirit, this is a sharing. Many of my friends and colleagues continue to employ and work with strength-based personal coaches. We find that they compel us to become better people and professionals than we were yesterday! My coach is named Chris. He is a highly competent and effective guide who can ask clarifying questions to compel you to more deeply consider your strengths, and the strengths of your work in youth development. He has been doing this a long time - and is a national spokesperson for resiliency and human development. Because of his desire to serve, during these challenging times, he has made the decision to live into his mission and work in a new way. He will begin coaching individuals (and teams) for whatever amount they are willing and able to pay. It is his intention to live, work, and serve in the abundance that surrounds each of us (the strengths that envelop us.) I think his act of transformative change will be felt well beyond what is possible with the old models of coaching. People are in need and this is his response. I just had to share this "new and bold" idea with you. Like I said, he has coached me, and I value his insights, questioning, and support in having me "clarify" my directions, priorities, and thinking. If you are interested, send me an email, and I'll connect you to Chris. Onward, always onward... into the mystery of what makes me me and what makes you you! Media, Sex and Health: A Community Guide for Professionals and Parents By Kate H. Rademacher Foreword by Jane D. Brown, Ph.D. Published and distributed by The Women's Center, Chapel Hill, NC, www.womenspace.org Media, Sex and Health: A Community Guide for Professionals and Parents is a resource intended to promote adult-teen communication about media and sexuality, so that young people can learn to independently analyze media messages and develop healthy media habits. Today, children and teens spend an average of 6 hours a day with media. Research tells us that excessive exposure to media messages about sexuality can contribute to an increase in early and/or unsafe sexual activity among adolescents. This manual provides an overview of the problem as well as ideas for ways that parents, educators and other adults who work with youth can help address the issues associated with unhealthy media consumption. The manual includes lesson plans for teachers and youth leaders; tips for parents and prevention specialists; and information about media effects, media literacy and Internet safety. Recently released by The Women's Center, a non-profit organization located in Chapel Hill, NC, Media, Sex and Health: A Community Guide for Professionals and Parents is available for free online at: http://www.womenspace.org/publications.htm#Mediamanual Hard copies can be purchased by calling 919.968.4610 or by emailing outreach@womenspace.org. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
