The piece includes a 1,500 word story, a short video, audio clips from interviews with youth commissioners in which they talk about a "rising tide" of civic engagement by youth across the country. I don't know if you are familiar with What Kids Can Do (WKCD). We have many arms, but one is our website which is like an e-zine, with new content and stories posted every 4-6 weeks. The website draws an international audience of educators, youth advocates, journalists, activists. Here's the link to the current homepage of our website http://www.whatkidscando.org ; you'll find the story, "Youth in Local Government: A Win for All" listed under "New on our front page." The work the Hampton Youth Coalition/Commission is doing is fantastic. It's clear that the support from city government has been remarkable. If only more cities could empower youth in this way! Your years of hard work have paid off. Hampton serves as a "Shining Star Example" of how to effectively mobilize young people through civic engagement. Really inspirational to us all!
