Spiritual development is often talked about as an individual process and =
actualized as a community process. Spirituality at its core is about =
being part of something bigger than oneself. Every teen I've ever met, =
be it through rebellion or striving to be accepted, is seeking community =
and to understand their place in it, and in seeking community is also =
seeking spirituality.

*Rites of Passage*
This essay by center advisor David G. Blumenkrantz, Ph.D., notes the =
important benefits of rites of passage, and advocates for the creation =
of new, effective ones as a means of helping young people to navigate =
the transition from youth to adult and to grow up with purpose and a =
sense of meaning. The essay helps inaugurate the Practical Strategies =
section of the Research and Insight section of the center's Web site.

*Religion & Spirituality in a Global Context: Selected Results from the =
World Values Survey*
One of the ways that the Center for Spiritual Development in Childhood =
and Adolescence is exploring religious and spiritual influences on the =
lives of individuals is through secondary analyses of large =
international datasets that contain data on religious beliefs, =
practices, and values. In this Fast Fact, Dr. Arturo Sesma, Jr., reports =
on analysis of the World Values Survey (WVS), which yields interesting =
trends in how people from various countries think about their lives in =
society.

about the center's behind-the-scenes activities and emerging ideas. His =
